Aliases: the thing every generic bot gets wrong

Your callers say "pep-ni," not "pepperoni." They say "half onion," not "whole pizza, left side, onion." Fire It's menu supports aliases per item and per modifier so the agent understands local vocabulary without prompting the model into new behaviors.

What's captured as a field, not a note

The kitchen ticket, the price, and the transcript all agree because they come from the same schema. Free-text drift is where mispriced orders come from.

The alias sheet as your first hour of setup

The single highest-leverage hour of menu setup is filling out the alias sheet. Every top-fifty item should have at least one spoken alias, and every abbreviated modifier should have the shorthand your neighborhood actually uses. Fire It ships with an alias editor and reasonable defaults, but the local vocabulary is yours to add. A shop that skips this step often blames the AI for mishearing 'pep' as 'peppers' when the fix was a two-word alias entry.

  • Item aliases — 'pep' → pepperoni, 'chix' → chicken, brand-specific nicknames.
  • Size aliases — 'small' → 12", 'the big one' → 18" if that's your local vocabulary.
  • Modifier aliases — 'ez' → light, 'well' → well done.
  • Regional aliases — anything a returning caller says that isn't on the menu.

Modifier groups: the difference between required and optional matters

A required modifier group with no ceiling loops the caller forever. An optional group with a required minimum contradicts itself and traps the schema. Fire It's menu editor enforces the difference at import time, so bad configurations are caught before the agent ever hits the phones. That's unglamorous, but it's why the voice flow feels the same on call one and call one thousand — the shape of the schema doesn't drift.

Sold-out sync is the workflow, not the feature

The sold-out feature is table stakes. The workflow is what actually matters: who on your team marks an item 86'd, how quickly they do it, and whether that habit survives the sixth caller of the rush. Fire It exposes the sold-out toggle in a single-tap place, and the change syncs to the agent within seconds. Beyond that, the operational discipline is a management job — nobody wants to be the vendor that took your money and blamed the sold-out list.

The menu review that has to happen before go-live

The single biggest predictor of a smooth voice-ordering launch is a one-hour menu review with the person who actually built the POS menu. Fire It's importer will surface structural problems — orphan modifier groups, size options wired to the wrong item, prices that disagree with the printed menu — but the human step is deciding what to do about them. Some shops fix the POS side; some prefer to override in the Fire It menu editor. Either is fine, but making the choice explicitly beats letting the two systems drift. If the checklist surfaces more than three structural problems, delay the pilot by a week and fix them first — a launched voice agent on a shaky menu produces exactly the kind of bad-first-impression transcripts that poison the internal narrative about whether AI works.
